As a child I hit myself on the head playing with a ball and cup and can still remember how much it hurt. So replacing the wooden ball with a soft felt one means there's much less danger of injury. The felt ball is handmade from locally sourced sheeps wool coloured using natural plant-based dyes. The ball's attached to the cup with sustainable hemp twine.

The ball and cup game is deceptively simple. Just swing the ball on its string and catch it in the cup. However, it actually requires a lot of skill. The repetitious process of learning how to do this develops hand eye co-ordination but also something more inportant.
The fact that it takes time to learn encourages persistence and and builds motivation in a child. These are important qualities to foster in an age of instant gratification. As such I recommend this toy most suitable for ages 7+.
The best technique is to grip the cup's handle with your thumb over the knot. Let the ball hang straight down on its string in front of you. Swing in a forwards and backwards motion, keeping the string straight, when you're ready swing the ball up and bring the cup up underneath it in a scooping motion.
